In Newsweekly first broke the story of Sara Andrews, a World of Warcraft gamer who set out to start a guild friendly to GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered) players and began recruiting within the game world. She was warned by a Blizzard gamemaster that this violated the company’s policy on harassment. Andrews, who at first thought there had been some miscommunication, exchanged a few e-mails with various Blizzard staff members and soon learned that they were quite serious about preventing her from in-game recruiting for her new guild, Oz, whose credo “is one of peace and unity without judgments or intolerance of others, whatever they may be.” Blizzard went so far as to threaten Andrews with banishment from the game if she continued.
Way to stand up for human rights, decency, and common sense there Blizzard.
*briefly considers boycotting Blizzard games, but then realizes what a terrible place a world without Warcraft would be*
