A few more notes on Stephen Colbert

It looks like the professional media is finally picking up on their failure to pick up on Stephen Colbert’s performance Saturday night, with both the New York Times and Washington Post running stories. The latter hits the nail on the head:

Yes, it turns out Colbert has brought the White House and its press corps together at long last, creating a sense of solidarity rooted in something they have in common: Neither of them like being criticized.

Of course, the interesting thing here is by acknowledging the story they’ve managed to transform it yet again, turning it into another example where the mainstream media bowed to the collective influence of the blogosphere, which wouldn’t let the performance go unacknowledged.
